After a month of planning and anticipation, three of my girlfriends and I met for ‘Tea at The Taj.” Afternoon tea was served in the French Room of the Taj Hotel, where tea has been served since 1927. Even in good old Boston, it’s rare enough to dine in a restaurant opened before the Great Depression; which is notable because the room maintains the grandeur and opulence of ages past. The atmosphere transcends the modern world with grand chandeliers, a violinist, and the finest china. Looking around, we saw well-heeled patrons in every direction enjoying cucumber sandwiches. The ambiance provided a pretty afternoon among friends.
I am quite the tea drinker, I am the most frequent offender of making Stash teas at the Nespresso machine in the Simple Truth Lounge. The Jasmine Green Tea was fantastic– although I caution everyone to not drink the entire pot– as it is a big pot and quite caffeinated! I was delighted with the gluten-free accommodations the restaurant made. They offer gluten-free bread and a delectable creme brulee with chocolate dipped strawberries in lieu of glutenous petite fours and white bread.
The wait staff were lovely, accommodating our requests for a million group photos. Their patience is to be envied!
I enthusiastically recommend an afternoon to Bostonians and tourists alike. It is a real treat to dine in a luxurious setting, accompanied by the violin, sipping fine tea, enjoying beautiful little tea sandwiches! I cannot wait for the next excuse I have for tea at The Taj!

Located next door to the hotel is Zoe’s, a diner which serves classic American breakfast. Huge portions, so definitely bring your appetite!
Just a few minute walk from the hotel is Pesti Pies, a small neighborhood cafe which service scrumptious freshly baked pasteries.
For a quick muffin, bagel or egg sandwich, Au Bon Pain is located just across the street from the hotel.
Locateda five minute walk from Hotel Veritas, Clover continues to get rave reviews from locals and the press. Boston Globe has called this little restaurant one of the best places for breakfast in Greater Boston. “At Clover, servers intercept rather than greet you, taking orders on iPods and reporting prep times to the tenth of a minute. And there’s plenty of green attitude: no trash cans (“everything we use is compostable”), no Splenda (“it’s artificial”), and no meat. But it’s worth it. Clover’s egg sandwich is a perfectly soft-boiled egg served in a whole wheat pita with Vermont cheddar cheese and tomato. The marvelous $2 coffees feature a cast of local indie roasters.”
